Registration
Yes, click here to register using a paper form. Contact Codney Washington at jazz02@aol.com with any questions.
Unfortunately we have to pay for vendors up front, so we aren’t able to issue refunds. If you aren’t able to attend, we ask that you donate your registration to one of our elders.
Yes, the last day to register is May 15, 2019.
Yes, the reunion shirts are available separately for $20, which includes shipping. They will be delivered at check-in or by mail at the start of the reunion. Please visit the Fundraising page to order extra t-shirts and other souvenirs.

Transportation
No, the hotel does not provide a shuttle. However, it is located 2 blocks from the Metro station at the McPherson Square Station. The closest airport, 4 miles away, is the Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA).
It is not necessary to rent a vehicle. Keep in mind, hotel parking is $50 per day. Most of the activities take place inside or within a couple miles of the hotel. The best transportation options include walking, Uber, Lyft, taxi cab, and Metro (2 blocks away).
No, we have not made arrangements with any airlines or travel agencies.

Accommodations
No, you are welcome to find alternate accommodations. Keep in mind that most of the activities will take place at the host hotel, and most of the family usually stays.
We’ve reserved 80 rooms in the JOWA DC 2019 Family Reunion block (group code: WAL08). The deadline to receive the group rate is May 15, 2019. If you secure your registration after this date, you may have to pay a higher per night cost, and there is no guarantee our block (or any rooms) will still be available. Reserve now! A deposit is not required.
The rooms have 2 double beds or 2 single beds.It’s up to you to make comfortable sleeping arrangements!
Unfortunately, free parking is not included in the hotel stay. Parking is an additional $50 per night, and includes in and out privileges.
Yes, each room will receive complimentary WiFi for the weekend.
Activities
Registering for the reunion will grant you access to the hotel activities, including the banquet. The Party Bus and Historic Attractions may cost extra and are optional.
Friends of the family are welcome at all events, as long as they display the same decorum as a Jones-Walker descendant and pay the registration fee. We have included a separate ‘banquet only’ fee to accommodate a la carte requests.
Yes, all activities that are included in the registration fee are suitable for all ability levels. The hotel has wheelchair accessibility and ADA compliant rooms.
Full dinner is included at the banquet. Light finger foods will be available throughout the day in the host hotel.
On Friday from 3:30 to 6pm, we will have a presentation from Shannon Christmas, DNA Expert, to assist the family in tracking our lineage!

Fundraising
All orders must be received by March 31, 2019.
All packages will be shipped in April 2019. We will gather shipping details then and notify you that your package is on the way.
While we don’t anticipate any issues with shipping, we understand that bad stuff happens. If you have any issues with your package, reach out to our fundraising coordinator, Larry Wright at lwright@wwgllc.com.

Meet your DC planning committee

 

Camile Williams

Camile is a native of Chicago and has lived in Washington DC since 2003. She is the daughter and only child of Maezell and Jeff Williams and granddaughter of Andrew and Mayola Walker, great granddaughter of Henry Walker Sr, and great great granddaughter of Lucinda Butler Jones-Walker. Camile thoroughly enjoys her career as a healthcare professional because she is able to make communities healthier, happier and stronger than when she found them. When she’s not working, she loves to live life — traveling, grilling, yoga, pool, the arts, wine tasting, home projects, exercising, and an occasional cigar. She now serves as the chair of the 2019 JOWA DC Family Reunion. 

Bessie Guerrant

Bessie (Moorehead) Guerrant is the daughter of Willie and Blanchie Moorehead, the granddaughter of Mary Modena (Jones), who was the daughter of Lucinda (Butler) Jones Walker.  Bessie is an education administrator at the University of Kentucky and lives in Lexington, KY with her spouse of 45 years.  They have 3 children—Kairise, Shannon and Garren.

Dawin Wright

Dawin is located in Southfield, MI working at Ford Motor Company as an electrical engineer.  He is married to Akua Wright and is a father of 3 sons (Aaron, Christian, and Isaiah).  Dawin is the son of Larry Wright Sr, who is the great grandson of Henry Walker Sr and Lucinda Butler. 

Codney Washington

Codney is from Little Rock, AR. He is the son of Shirley (Moorehead) Washington, the grandson of Willie Moorehead, the great grandson of Mary Modena (Jones) Moorehead, and the great great grandson of Lucinda Butler Jones-Walker. Codney serves as the treasurer of the 2019 JOWA DC Family Reunion.

Marshall Nickleberry

Marshall is located in Laurel, MD, and has worked at Tischer Autogroup for five years. He is currently a Sales Assistant Manager. Also, Marshall is a certified tax preparer and office manager with ten years experience at his family’s tax franchise; plus he owns a home based business with ACN, a telecom, banking, and utilities company. He is married to Tiffanie Nickleberry, and is a father of 3 beautiful and intelligent girls (Marshae, Madison, and Sarah). Marshall is the son of Rosa and Von Nickleberry Sr, and is the grandson of Leanna Walker Grimes. Leanna is the daughter of Henry Walker Jr.
